3. Will Big City Crushed Concrete install the material?

4. Is there a minimum tonnage for delivery?

5. How do I dispose of my rubble? Is it Free?

1. How do you calculate how much material is needed?

Answer: The formula is ([L*W*D]/27)* conversion factor = compacted tonnage. Example, you have a flex base road to install that is 100 feet long by 12 feet wide and it will have a depth of 4 inches thick (.33 feet = 4 inches divided by 12 inches). Multiply these three numbers (L*W*D) to get the cubic feet then divide by 27 to get the cubic yards. Because we weigh each load, material must be converted to tons so you multiply the cubic yards by the conversion factor (shown below).

Use our online calculator

This problem would solve as follows ([100*12*.33)]/27)* 1.65=24.20 tons of Flex.

The following conversion factors can be used for our materials.

Flex Base = 1.65 ton per cubic yard

3/8 minus Fines = 1.65 ton per cubic yard

1 1/2 " =1.4 ton per cubic yard

3" =1.3 ton per cubic yard

Crushed Asphalt =1.65 ton per cubic yard

*******Please keep in mind there is always a plus or minus factor on the calculations due to the conditions of the sub grade and installation process.

2. How do you install the Flex Base?

Answer: After you have appropriately prepared the sub grade or surface area spread the base material to the approximate desired thickness (recommend 4 inch minimum) and sufficiently wet the material (approximate optimum moisture around 10%) then compact the material. If you do not have compaction equipment available, use a vehicle (drive on it). The water and compaction will help the material to tighten up and bond together to give you a hard all weather surface. Remember to account for drainage (crown the road, bar ditch, culvert etc.)

*******Please note these are only basic guidelines.

3. Will Big City Crushed Concrete install the material?

Answer: Big City is strictly the manufacturer of these products, and can arrange delivery to the site only. If you need contractor recommendations, Big City can provide names of contractors who have experience with our material.

4. Is there a minimum tonnage for delivery?

Answer: No we do not have a minimum tonnage for a delivery. However, you will want to evaluate the delivery fee for small orders to decide if you should pick the material up with your own vehicle. We will load any normal size pickup truck (i.e. 1 ton) for a flat $10.00 with any of our materials.

5. How do I dispose of my concrete rubble? Is there a Fee?

Answer: Big City will accept clean concrete rubble from any entity for NO CHARGE. It cannot have any hazardous material content or trash (REBAR is allowed). We do not restrict the size as long as you can fit it in a truck and dump it out. Our equipment on site is intended for our processing of material and not available to offload oversized concrete. If you have oversized rubble or hour restrictions you would need to call for special arrangements for disposal. We do not accept house brick or Haydite (lightweight concrete block). We do not accept mixed loads of concrete and asphalt; the concrete needs to be separated. Excessive dirt/mud is not allowed in the concrete rubble loads. Dirty or trashy loads will be rejected.
